Frequently Asked questions

  • What is an electric scooter or bike?

Electric scooters and bikes are the latest development in urban mobility. They allow you to zip through traffic quickly and efficiently, without breaking a sweat. Electric bikes also allow you to explore areas you haven’t seen before — in the city or in the countryside —- by assisting you when the climb gets steep or you have a long road home.

  • How do I charge my e-scooter/bike?

You can easily plug your scooter or e-bike into a wall outlet. Charging cables are, of course, included in your order.

  • Where do you ship to and how long will it take?

We ship across the whole United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland, except for certain remote postcodes.

  • How long does it take to do one full charge?

Between 2 to 3 hours for scooters and 3 to 4 for e-bikes.

  • Can I book a test ride?

Absolutely – Just drop us a line here, and we’ll organise it. Info@onboards.co.

  • What's the legal situation? Where can I ride an e-scooter? On the bike path or on the sidewalk?

Unfortunately, the UK is not very enlightened in this regard. The applicable law, dated from the 1835, doesn’t allow for riding an e-scooter on pavements and cycle lanes, however there are plans to change this soon.

    So that’s the law.

And then there is daily reality. And in it, we see e-scooters all the time, people ride them on the pavement, in the cycle path, in the streets… and no-one bats an eyelid.

So it’s one of these things that are formally not allowed but that are not really being prosecuted. At least we haven’t heard of a single case where someone riding a scooter, not causing anyone any harm, would have been charged and fined.

Most likely, it’s just a matter of time. As e-scooters become more popular, pressure will mount to do something about this situation, and the law will change.

Until then, wear your safety gear, drive safely, respect the traffic norms, care for others and care for yourself.

Really common sense stuff. And this is how we’ve been riding a scooter on London’s streets for the last 18 months without a hitch.

  • Why should I buy an electric scooter or bike?

You get the health benefits of riding a scooter or bike, but get a bit of assistance on your way.

It’s far more ecologically friendly than taking a car to work and reduces your reliance on public transport.

It’s also cheaper that any other form of mechanised transport. Fully charging a bike battery which has a range of 40 miles costs as little as 40p. And by signing up with a renewable energy electricity provider you close the loop.

Commuting to work using an electric scooter or bike usually also means you won’t have to take a shower at work because you’re not really breaking a sweat.

Finally, an electric scooter is a great equaliser and allows people of different levels of fitness to enjoy a ride together.

For work, for fun, for shopping, seeing friends – There’s many good reasons to ride an electric scooter or bike – what’s yours?

    .

  • So I don't need ANY mechanical power to ride your bikes/scooters?

With scooters, you step on, give it a quick push and add power using the manual accelerator, and you’re flying. (ok, not literally flying, you get the point)

With bikes, it’s a bit different. The bike supports you while you pedalling normally. You can choose the level of support you receive — up to 90% of your thrust can come from the bike itself.

  • What if the battery runs out? Am I stuck?

Not at all. Our bikes and scooters can be used just like normal, non-electric bikes and scooters. So unlike with an electric car which is useless after the battery runs out, you can simply use your natural energy to get you back home.

  • Where do you source your products from?

We work with three distributors in China and have selected our products from among hundreds of competitive products, choosing only those that meet our high quality and safety standards.

  • What kind of warranty do you offer?

We offer a six month warranty on manufacture product defects.
